1891, февраль — боли в колене становятся невыносимыми.

7 апреля — Рембо покидает Харар на носилках; его доставляют на побережье для консультации с врачами.

Начало мая — Рембо помещают в европейский госпиталь в Адене. Врач советует ему вернуться во Францию.

20 мая — Рембо прибывает в Марсель, где его помещают в больницу Непорочного Зачатия. Врачи настаивают на ампутации правой ноги.

мая — госпожа Рембо приезжает в Марсель и навещает сына в больнице.

27 мая — Рембо ампутируют ногу.

8 июня — мать уезжает домой.

23 июля — Рембо выходит из больницы и выезжает поездом в Арденны. Живёт на ферме матери в Роше; испытывает жестокие боли в культе и животе.

23 августа — в сопровождении сестры Изабель возвращается в Марсель; надеется сесть на корабль, отправляющийся в Красное море, чтобы добраться до Харара.

25 августа — в полубессознательном состоянии снова помещён в больницу Непорочного Зачатия. Врачи находят состояние Рембо безнадёжным.

25 октября — по просьбе Изабель соглашается принять больничного священника.

9 ноября — диктует сестре последнее письмо.

10 ноября — в два часа пополудни Артюр Рембо умирает, так и не узнав, что три дня назад в Париже издательство Леона Женонсо выпустило книгу его юношеских стихотворений «Реликварий».
