In a letter to the naval minister P. V. Chichagov, Lisyansky wrote: "Having undertaken a voyage around the world under the command of my friend, ... I just waited for the minute of this important event, but in the Marquesas Islands everything turned into a dream. There Mr. Rezanov announced to us publicly that he is our boss. Having risked every minute lifes for the glory of our sovereign and Fatherland, was it possible for us to wait for the such commander of such an important expedition, - commander, that had never seen the sea before?

"The commander of the 'Neva' appealed to the Main Board of the Russian-American Company and to the Minister of Commerce Rumiantsev with a request to dismiss him command of the ship "or exclude from the command of the one, from whom, apart from the unfortunate end of all our labors, nothing can be expected." However, the petitions of Kruzenshtern and Lisyansky about resignation were not taken into account.

Rumyantsev, at whom documents of the conflicting parties met, not only hasn't made to either the envoy, or officers of any reproach, but has even taken care of that they have received awards. Compared with the success of the sailing of ships from Kronstadt to Kamchatka and unto the northwestern shores of America, this quarrel was not so much a significant event. Rumyantsev didn't consider Kruzenshtern responsible for misunderstanding. Moreover, Rumyantsev has made Kruzenshtern to be the scientific adviser for questions of sea and polar researches and has kept the friendly relations with him till last days of the life" [1] .

It is difficult to say how N. P. Rezanov can pressure I. F. Kruzenshtern (but still specifying of a person, who had no marine experience and a marine intuition, could not help, - but be discomfort).

Naturally, instructions of the person, who didn't have the sea experience, who wasn't understanding importance of special knowledge and a seaworthy intuition, was dangerous. In this sense, I. F. Kruzenshtern fought for the freedom of action of the commander for a safe and successful voyage.

But it is possible to add to these understandable arguments still such reflections.

What would be if the two expedition vessels has come back and with N.P. Rezanov onboard one of them?

What name would it receive? Round-the-world expedition of Rezanov? Rezanov and Krusenshtern? Rezanov and Krusenshtern and Lisyansky?

Exaggerating and fantasizing, one may say, that the place in the history was at stake.

So, a game went with the purpose to win important things:

(1) the safety of sea voyage,

(2) the success of the voyage (the success not of the embassy mission, and not of the company mission, and not of the economic mission), namely the success of the circumnavigation and the scientific cognitive mission.

(3) the place in the history.

The Sphinx has mysteriously grinned: "Play! Your chess pieces are your successes. Get to win!"

The energy of competition and the creation of success

Recount in this essay all the information, that is set out in the sources concerning the relationship and Krusenshtern and N. P. Rezanov, is not expediently.

We will note only culmination points.

It is curious that the conflict has reached one of the culminations after an entry in the Pacific Ocean, passing of a considerable distance in the Pacific Ocean, but before arriving in Kamchatka (and Japan), and prior to start of separate floatings of "Hope" (to Japan and Kamchatka) and of 'Neva' (to Alaska).

By this point ("Hope" and "Neva" were in the Hawaiian Islands area), have become clear (1) the qualifications of the Captains, (2) The real prospects of the success of round-the-world expedition.

As for Ambassador N. P. Rezanov, he was still a "thing in itself," he could not yet refer to some his personal achievements or successes.

I. F. Kruzenshtern made used the words of N. P. Rezanov in relation to him (Krusenshtern), - "'re being childish", - for the organization of collective trial (with the participation of Lisyansky and representatives of the officers of "Hope" and "Neva").

"The economic questions completely not your competence, the Company's servants change goods.
– Rezanov smiled slightly.
– I think, this is not solid for you to re being childish.

Kruzenshtern, dumbfounded stared at Rezanov, his face became crimson and he screamed:

– How dare you tell me that I're being childish?!" [2].

From sources, it follows that Lisyansky expressed support for Krusenshtern.

I. F. Krusenshtern is exacerbating the situation to the limit at the time of collective trial of the words "'re being childish".

In the conflict involved Yu. F. Lisyansky. Rezanov demonstrates a document, signed personally by the Emperor Alexander I.

Lisyansky in the heat utters inappropriate words: the Emperor did not write it (document), and only signed it.

"Who wrote that?" - asked Lysyansky, looking at the Rezanov at point-blank.

(...)

– Yes, wrote that who?
– Lisyansky has repeated.

(...)

– Here that is!
– Lisyansky ironically has told.
– We want to know, who wrote. And about who signed ... he will sign everything. We know it ..." [3].

It seems, N.P. Rezanov - having had such opportunity - have officially informed to St. Petersburg about Yu.F. Lisyansky's words.

Formally N.P. Rezanov is right, declaring about his powers. His formal authority is recognized by all. But there is a psychological inertia: officers have experience of sea service, and by the ship the one-man management is accepted, the captain individually directs the ship.

N.P. Rezanov or has no right to displace the captain (such prospect arises only after arrival of "Hope" for Kamchatka), or has no decisiveness for it, or just isn't able to make it (he is not a man of navy).
