M. Bouc broke off. The door at the end had opened, and Princess Dragomiroff entered the dining-car. She came straight to them and all three men rose to their feet.

“That is it. It has my initial in the corner.”

“But, Madame la Princesse, that is the letter H (но, мадам княгиня, это же буква Н),” said M. Bouc. “Your Christian name — pardon me — is Natalia (прошу меня извинить, но ваше имя Наталия).”

There was something about this indomitable old lady (было в этой неумолимой пожилой даме нечто; indomitable — неукротимый) which made him feel flustered (что заставляло его чувствовать себя взволнованно; fluster — волнение, смятение) and uncomfortable (и неловко; comfort — утешение, поддержка).

“You did not ask me (вы не спрашивали меня /о платке/),” said the Princess drily (сухо ответила княгиня).
