"Nay, Macumazahn (нет, Макумазан)," he answered, "but a third part of it (только третья ее часть). I translated.

"Those over whom the shadow of death is hovering are silent (те, над кем порхает тень смерти, /обычно/ молчаливы; to hover — парить; кружить, нависать)," he answered, grimly (ответил он мрачно).

"Will many be killed (/а что/, многие будут убиты)?"

"Very many (очень многие)."

"It seems (кажется)," I said to the others (сказал я остальным), "that we are going to assist at a gladiatorial show arranged regardless of expense (что мы собираемся поприсутствовать на гладиаторских боях, организованных не считаясь с расходами; to assist— помогать, содействовать; только присутствовать /и ничего не делать/; show— показ, демонстрация; выступление, зрелище, бой; regardless— независимо от, не считаясь)."
