"Nonsense (чепуха)!" said Sir Henry.
As for myself, as I saw that old fiend dancing nearer and nearer (что касается меня, то, когда я увидел, что эта старая дьяволица, танцуя, приближается все ближе и ближе), my heart positively sank into my boots (мое сердце точно ушло в пятки: «упало в ботинки»). I glanced behind us at the long rows of corpses, and shivered (я взглянул на длинные ряды трупов позади нас и содрогнулся).
ejaculate [I'dZxkjuleIt], nonsense ['nOns(q)ns], positively ['pOzqtIvlI], corpse [kO:ps], shiver ['SIvq]
He was slain, and the king counted one hundred and three. Then Gagool again sprang to and fro, gradually drawing nearer and nearer to ourselves.
"Hang me if I don't believe she is going to try her games on us," ejaculated Good, in horror.
"Nonsense!" said Sir Henry.
As for myself, as I saw that old fiend dancing nearer and nearer, my heart positively sank into my boots. I glanced behind us at the long rows of corpses, and shivered.

Nearer she came (все ближе она подходила), and nearer yet, every pair of eyes in that vast assemblage watching her movements with intense anxiety (и все пристальнее каждая пара глаз того огромного собрания наблюдала за ее движениями с напряженной тревогой). At last she stood still and pointed (наконец она замерла на месте как охотничья собака, учуявшая дичь; still— неподвижно, спокойно; to standstill— не двигаться; остановиться; to point— показывать пальцем, указывать; делать стойку /указывая на дичь — о собаке/).
"Which is it to be (который /из нас/)?" asked Sir Henry, to himself (спросил /про себя/ сэр Генри).
In a moment all doubts were set at rest (через мгновение все сомнения были развеяны; to set at rest — успокоить, ободрить; уладить/вопрос/), for the old woman had rushed in and touched Umbopa, alias Ignosi, on the shoulder (потому что старуха бросилась вперед и прикоснулась к плечу Амбопы, то есть Игнози; alias — иначе/называемый/, известный так же под именем).
waltz [wO:ls], animated ['xnImeItId], crooked ['krukId], unholy [An'hqulI], lustre ['lAstq], assemblage [q'semblIdZ], alias ['eIlIxs]
Nearer and nearer waltzed Gagool, looking for all the world like an animated crooked stick, her horrid eyes gleaming and glowing with a most `unholy' lustre.
Nearer she came, and nearer yet, every pair of eyes in that vast assemblage watching her movements with intense anxiety. At last she stood still and pointed.
"Which is it to be?" asked Sir Henry, to himself.
In a moment all doubts were set at rest, for the old woman had rushed in and touched Umbopa, alias Ignosi, on the shoulder.

There was a pause, which I instantly took advantage of (настала пауза, которой я немедленно воспользовался; advantage— преимущество, превосходство; выгода, польза; to take advantage of— воспользоваться чем-либо /в своих интересах/).
"O king," I called out, rising from my seat (воскликнул я, поднимаясь со своего места), "this man is the servant of thy guests (этот человек — слуга твоих гостей), he is their dog (он их пес); whosoever sheds the blood of our dog sheds our blood (кто бы ни пролил кровь нашей собаки, тот прольет нашу кровь). By the sacred law of hospitality I claim protection for him (по священному закону гостеприимства, я требую для него защиты)."
shriek [Sri:k], stranger ['streIndZq], advantage [qd'vQ:ntIdZ], whosoever ["hu:squ'evq], sacred ['seIkrId], hospitality ["hOspI'txlItI], claim [kleIm], protection [prq'tekS(q)n]
"I smell him out," she shrieked. "Kill him, kill him, He is full—of evil; kill him, the stranger, before blood flows for him. Slay him, O king."
There was a pause, which I instantly took advantage of.
"O king," I called out, rising from my seat, "this man is the servant of thy guests, he is their dog; whosoever sheds the blood of our dog sheds our blood. By the sacred law of hospitality I claim protection for him."
"Gagool, mother of the witch doctors, has smelled him out (Гагула, мать всех охотниц за колдунами, разоблачила его); he must die, white men (он должен умереть, белые люди)," was the sullen answer (последовал мрачный ответ).
"Nay, he shall not die (нет, он не умрет)," I replied (ответил я); "he who tries to touch him shall die indeed (тот, кто попытается коснуться его, действительно умрет)."
"Seize him (схватить его)!" roared Twala, to the executioners (проревел Твала палачам), who stood around red to the eyes with the blood of their victims (которые стояли вокруг, красные /до самых глаз/ от крови своих жертв).
They advanced towards us, and then hesitated (они двинулись к нам, но затем остановились; to hesitate— колебаться, не решаться; не решаться). As for Ignosi, he raised his spear (что касается Игнози, то он поднял свое копье), and raised it as though determined to sell his life dearly (и поднял его так, словно решил дорого продать свою жизнь).
