“I should have killed him!”

“Where did you get the money (где вы взяли деньги)?” asked Kemp, abruptly (вдруг спросил Кемп; abruptly — круто, отвесно; вертикально; грубо, резко, отрывисто; вдруг, внезапно, неожиданно).

“Kemp,” he said, “I’ve had no sleep for near three days (я не спал около трех дней), except a couple of dozes of an hour or so (только пару раз вздремнул по часу или около того; doze — дремота, сонливость, сонное состояние). “Well, have my room — have this room (что ж, располагайтесь в моей комнате — в этой комнате).”

“But how can I sleep (но как мне можно спать)? If I sleep — he will get away (если засну — он сбежит). Ugh (эх)! What does it matter (какое это имеет значение)?”

“Where did you get the money?” asked Kemp, abruptly.

The Invisible Man was silent for a space.

“I can’t tell you to-night,” he said.

He groaned suddenly and leant forward, supporting his invisible head on invisible hands.

“Kemp,” he said, “I’ve had no sleep for near three days, except a couple of dozes of an hour or so. I must sleep soon.”

“Well, have my room — have this room.”

“But how can I sleep? If I sleep — he will get away. Ugh! What does it matter?”

“What’s the shot wound (как рана, /серьезная/; shot wound — огнестрельнаярана)?” asked Kemp, abruptly.

“Nothing — scratch and blood (ерунда, царапина /и кровь/). Oh, God (Господи)! How I want sleep (как хочется спать)!”

“Why not (а почему бы и нет)?”

The Invisible Man appeared to be regarding Kemp (казалось, Невидимка внимательно смотрел на Кемпа).

“Because I’ve a particular objection to being caught by my fellow-men (потому что у меня есть особое возражения = я совершенно не желаю быть пойманным своим ближним; particular— исключительный, особый; привередливый; tocatch; fellow-man— собрат; ближний),” he said slowly (медленно произнес он).

Kemp started (Кемп вздрогнул).

“Fool that I am (ну и дурак же я)!” said the Invisible Man, striking the table smartly (сказал Невидимка, сильно ударив по столу). “I’ve put the idea into your head (сам подал вам эту мысль; to put something into somebody's head — внушить что-либокому-либо, надоумить кого-либо, подать, подсказать /мысль/).”

Outside the night was very quiet and still (снаружи ночь была очень тихой и спокойной), and the new moon was setting over the down (и молодой месяц висел над холмом). Then he examined the keys of the bedroom and the two dressing-room doors (затем он осмотрел ключи = замкиспальни и обе двери уборной; dressing-room — уборная, туалетнаякомната), to satisfy himself that these also could be made an assurance of freedom (чтобы убедиться, что и они могут стать гарантией свободы = гарантироватьсвободу/принеобходимости/).
