Специфическое лечение возможно при развитии ДН при некоторых нейромышечных заболеваниях. Тем не менее поддерживающая терапия (дополнительная оксигенация, стимулирование кашля) и внимание к трофике может предотвратить развитие ДН. Последние достижения в развитии неинвазивных методов поддержки дыхания и профилактики ДН в значительной степени способны повысить качество жизни таких больных.
