Slowly Ignosi brought down the spear till it pricked the prostrate heap of rags.

With a wild yell she sprang to her feet, and then again fell and rolled upon the floor.

"Nay; I will show it. Only let me live, let me sit in the sun and have a bit of meat to suck, and I will show thee."

"It is well (хорошо). I thought I should find a way to reason with thee (я думал, что я смогу найти способ урезонить тебя; way — путь, дорога; возможность, путь, средство; to reason — размышлять, рассуждать логически; уговаривать, урезонивать/кого-либо/). To-morrow shalt thou go with Infadoos and my white brothers to the place (завтра ты должна будешь пойти с Инфадусом и моими белыми братьями в то самое место), and beware how thou failest (и берегись, если ты этого не сделаешь), for if thou showest it not, then shalt thou slowly die (потому что если ты не покажешь его, ты умрешь медленной смертью). "I will not fail, Ignosi (я не подведу /тебя/, Игнози). I always keep my word (я всегда держу свое слово): ha! ha! ha! Once a woman showed the place to a white man before (однажды, /это

IT was already dark on the third day after the scene described in the previous chapter (было уже темно, когда, на третий день после сцены, описанной в предыдущей главе), when we camped in some huts at the foot of the "Three Witches" (мы остановились на привал в нескольких хижинах у подножия "Трех Колдунов"; camp — лагерь; место привала, ночевки/часто на открытом воздухе/; to camp — располагаться лагерем, на привал), as the triangle of mountains was called to which Solomon's Great Road ran (как назывался треугольник из гор, к которому вела Великая дорога царя Соломона). The mountains, or rather the three peaks of the mountains, for the whole mass evidently consisted of a solitary upheaval (горы, или, вернее сказать, три горные вершины, так как весь массив, очевидно, образовался в результате: «состоял из» единого смещения пластов земной коры; upheaval — /геол./ поднятие земной коры, смещение пластов), were, as I have said, in the form of a triangle (располагались, как я уже сказал, в форме треугольника), of which the base was towards us (основание которого было обращено к нам), one peak being on our right (/при этом/ одна вершина располагалась справа), one on our left (одна слева), and one straight in front of us (и одна прямо перед нами).
