This magnificent address did not fail of its effect (это великолепное обращение произвело должное впечатление; to fail — недоставать, не хватать; потерпеть неудачу, не иметь успеха; effect — результат, следствие; действие, влияние); indeed, it was hardly needed (на самом деле, оно вряд ли было необходимо), so deeply were our friends already impressed with our powers (настолько сильно наши друзья уже были поражены нашим могуществом; deeply — глубоко; крайне, очень, в высокой степени).

"But I want to put 'em on (но я хочу надеть их)!" roared Good, in nervous English (нервно зарычал Гуд: «на нервном английском»).

"Nay, my lord (нет, мой повелитель)." put in Infadoos, "would my lord cover up his beautiful white legs (неужели мой повелитель скроет свои прекрасные ноги; to cover up — спрятать, тщательно прикрыть; закрывать) (although he was so dark Good had a singularly white skin (хотя он был темноволос, у него: «у Гуда» удивительно белая кожа)) from the eyes of his servants (от глаз своих слуг)? Have we offended my lord that he should do such a thing (разве мы обидели нашего повелителя, что он хочет так поступить; to offend — погрешить; обижать, оскорблять)?"

Here I nearly exploded with laughing (тут я чуть не лопнул от смеха; to explode — взрываться; разразиться/смехом, плачем, гневом и т.д./); and meanwhile, one of the men started on with the garments (а тем временем один из слуг двинулся в путь с его одеждой).
